Five Tower Defence Habits That Are Quietly Costing You

Five Tower Defence Habits That Are Quietly Costing You

July 23, 2026 · Miriam Kellner

Most people lose tower defence maps for the same handful of reasons, and none of them are about reflexes. They're about planning, and the good news is planning is a skill you can fix.

The first habit is overbuilding damage early. It feels productive, but early waves are cheap to clear. Save your resources for the point where enemy types start mixing, and you'll thank yourself.

Second, people ignore range and placement. A tower parked in a corner covering one straight is doing a fraction of its job. Aim for spots that cover corners and overlaps, where enemies spend the most time in your fire.

Third, and this one hurt to learn: not every upgrade is worth it. Sometimes a second cheap tower outperforms one maxed one. Read the numbers, not the shiny upgrade animation. Get these three right and the harder maps stop feeling unfair.
